News from the French charts, November 2nd, 2017

All you need to know about the latest French charts for the week ending November 2nd, 2017. Downloads, airplay, streaming and physical sales.

For the fourth week in a row, French rappers Kalash and Damso rule the combined singles chart with Mwaka Moon. They do so at a time where rap artists are overwhelmingly successful on streaming platforms, yielding regularly dull charts where 80% of the upper reaches of the tally is occupied by songs, often by the same hip hop acts, dramatically lacking mainstream reputation, let alone fame and success.
And unlike the UK charts, no specific rule had been implemented on the French survey to avoid having all tracks from a given album flooding the tally.

This results in this week’s top 20 having 16 of its entries falling to the same 3 hip hop acts: Orelsan, Kalash and Niska.

Among the remaining 4 positions, two are held by current US and UK number one songs: Post Malone’ s Rockstar and Camila Cabello’s Havana.

Dusk Till Dawn, by Zayn and Sia, manages its way up the charts and advances to 13. It also gains airplay reaching a new peak on the airplay chart, at 2.

The former 1D member has been denied the airplay top spot by Portugal. The Man’s Feel It Still which bounces back to number one, expanding its lead for a total of two weeks.

On the downloads chart, French band Ofenbach holds the top spot for the 3rd week running with Katchi (The Doo Wap Song) vs Nick Waterhouse.

On the combined albums chart, French rapper Orelsan is at 1 for the second week in a row. Veteran French singer Michel Sardou is at 2 with what was announced as his very last album.

Amir, former The Voice France candidate and Eurovision Song Contest contestant, has the highest new entry, Addictions, at 4, on Warner.

Rapper Hamza is new at 9 with his album entitled 1994.

The highest new entry by a foreign act is Gregory Porter’s Nat King Cole and Me, new at 20, on Decca.

The French charts are compiled by GfK for Snep. They are based on downloads, streams and, for the albums chart, physical sales.
The airplay chart is compiled by Yacast.
